Where Does Inspiration Come From? Trusting and Being Led

Right at the top, I'm going to admit I don't have an answer to my own question. I have more questions and theories than I can shake a stick at, and I find the entire subject fascinating. In my own life, I like to experiment to see how I can find good ideas . . . because I love having them!

This morning I was actually saying a prayer of thanks in advance of having a great day. When I woke up, I read a chapter from Wallace Wattles' book Working with the Law, a chapter on praise. He says that being appreciative has a metaphysical influence on your situation. I mentioned this in a phone call to my friend at 7 AM, and when I turned on my computer half an hour later I had an email from a gentleman interested in hiring me because he liked my energy. It felt connected to what we were speaking about--and even if I'm the only person in the world for whom that connection exists, it definitely does exist for me. So let's put gratitude on the list of where inspiration comes from.

At the ERS last week, we were exploring the principals of the law of attraction. One was to say, "Show me." And the advice was not to question, just to follow the inspiration that came--otherwise you'd delay the receipt of the answer. On Saturday morning, back in New York City, I went for a walk to get my niece her birthday gift. She told me she wanted a specific toy. First, I went online to see what stores sold it. There were four I could have gone to, but I had a good feeling about Lee's Art Supply on West 57th Street. So I went there. Saw a sign that said "Toys on the fourth floor." Not strange, but in fifteen years I had never known there was more than one floor. I walked up the stairs, found the toy, looked around, and then realized I could only get down by elevator.

Here's the fun part. In the elevator, I looked down and saw a button I have never seen in any other elevator. Perhaps it's meant to light up when you have trouble. It read, "Help is on the way." Wow! That impressed me. I took the photograph of the button on my cell phone that you see at the top of this blog entry.

Long story short, I decided to follow my very next hunch and ended up in the museum store of the Design Museum that recently opened at Columbus Circle. Poked around in the shop looking for my "help." And you know what . . . ? I got it! I was suddenly struck with an idea for a book that has actually been kicking around in my brain from similar messages I've been receiving for over a year and it suddenly percolated in my consciousness in a format that I thought was marketable. I can't tell you what it is, but it felt like a solid gift of inspiration from the universe. I finally connected the dots.

So that was fun. Let's add being open to our list. And for now, let me say . . . To be continued.
